Staging the Stans is a festival of staged readings of plays by Central Asian and Eurasian playwrights curated in collaboration with Kazakh playwright Olzhas Zhanaydarov and Russian playwright Evgeny Kazachkov, and featuring Zhanaydarov's new work, The Store.

The “Stans” refer to the nation-states, and former Soviet Republics, of Central Asia, and certain Muslim-majority autonomous republics within the Russian Federation.

In this 90-minute comedy, three Muslim women confront adultery and polygamy when one of their husbands marries a second wife. Friendship, fidelity, and faith are called into question as each woman reevaluates bonds once believed unbreakable, and discovers humor amongst the heartbreak.
